So Broken … So loved
The supreme happiness in life is the conviction
that we are loved -- Dr. Helein
About Dr. Rick helein
D.Min, M.Div, LMT, CFT

So Broken …So loved is how Dr. Rick Helein would describe himself. Broken yes and perhaps in many ways –yet, broken does not mean Dr. Rick Helein is not a whole person. In his wholeness Dr. Helein is also profoundly loved even as he becomes increasingly aware of the rough, jagged, and less than wanted parts of himself. As this awareness of his inherent wholeness has become realized overtime through internal and external healing Dr. Helein is able to see people – hear people – and believe people in their struggles and desires for healing, peace, and purpose.
Pastor, counselor and chaplain, The Reverend Dr. Rick Helein earned his Doctorate of Ministry - Pastoral Counseling, MA in Pastoral Counseling, and his Masters in Divinity at Liberty Seminary in Virginia. Dr. Helein also holds two Bachelor degrees: one in World Religion and the other in Psychology, Crisis Counseling. Additionally, Rick Helein is a commissioned Critical Incident Chaplain with a national organization, Christ in Action, based out of Warrenton, VA -- with a chaplain endorsement from Liberty Baptist Fellowship.
Having spent 18 months as a clinical trauma chaplain in two major hospitals, Dr. Rick Helein worked with patients, patient’s loved ones, and the hospital staff -- providing spiritual and pastoral care. In the world of trauma 1 hospitals, Dr. Rick Helein cared for patients who were actively dying or were reeling from trauma, as well providing pastoral care to seemingly countless members of grieving families who were devastated by profound and heart wrenching loss. Dr. Helein has also spent many years working as a chaplain and minister in depressed section eight housing projects. The 'broken guru's" work with such precious but mostly forgotten people convinced Dr. Rick Helein that true healing only happens when the whole person is treated and regarded as valued and whole, not judged but unconditionally loved.
Yet, amidst all of this pain, fear, and suffering Dr. Helein was able to witness the strength and wisdom that was alive in each person. In walking with them in their time of need it was apparent that the resilience needed to thrive was always in their possession, they just needed a light to see it.
While providing counsel and care to so many hurting and bewildered people in diverse areas and situations is effective and rewarding work, Dr. Helein knew that to treat the whole person -- every aspect of them had to be addressed and cared for. So, Dr. Helein began connecting different health related modalities in order to more effectively treat people holistically. This would become the light that guides.
To do this work he would need to rely on all of his training while continuing to learn how to apply the most useful methods in healing chronic physical and mental pain, much of which is tied to past trauma. Dr. Rick Helein would begin using his skills that come from his multiple licenses and two decades of work in Massage Therapy, and combine it with a clinical approach to therapy and his multiple certifications in fitness, corrective exercise, and performance training received from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).
